Libraries I Have Known

Today is National Libraries Day 2013, which naturally got me to thinking of libraries I have loved and lost.  It won’t come as any surprise, I suppose, that I wouldn’t be the person I am if it were not for libraries.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Renewal

A couple of weeks back my friend had all her hair shaved off to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.  I reckon her new look fits in with the renewal theme pretty well. Also I think you can still donate if you want…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Geometry

I have so much writing to do this month I will go crazy if I don’t do something else too, so I’m going to join in with a couple of photography challenges.  This one is from the post a day blog.

If pushed to describe what geometry means to me (unlikely, sure, but stranger things have happened), I’d probably say something vague about lines and shapes and change the subject.  So, without further ado, some lines and shapes:

My house

And how is NaNoWriMo going for you?!

Literary Edinburgh at the Fringe

This week I had a guest post called Thar Be Monsters, about a comical literary event happening at the Forest Cafe on Monday as part of the Inky Fingers Minifest, which is just one of approximately 8000 festivals happening in Edinburgh this summer.  It can be hard to decide what to do to in amongst all the comedy, music, theatre, dance, literature, poetry, spirituality, politics and bag-piping due to take place, but posts like that one can help the discerning viewer make up his or her mind.

To that end, I would like to take this opportunity to say that if you are doing something as part of one of the festivals and you’d like a platform to tell people about it, you should get in touch about doing a guest post on the blog.  You can email me on ali.george85@yahoo.com or leave a comment below, on facebook, or on twitter.

Royal Wedding #2

Today in Edinburgh (my place of residence since June 2008) there is a totally exciting royal wedding.  That horse riding royal one is marrying a rugby player (who may also ride horses, I don’t really know).

According to my sources (Twitter) a group of people from the Highlands have been camping near Canongate Kirk since 2pm yesterday in order to catch a glimpse of the happy couple.  The wedding is at 3pm today.  For my part, I am sitting in the flat listening to Andrew Collins and Josie Long on BBC Radio 6 Music, eating cold pizza and trying to work out a realistic word count target that I can reach before midnight tomorrow.  When the bell tolls 3, meanwhile, I’ll likely be on my way to Perthshire.  Different strokes for different folks.

A Reading

Yesterday was the busiest I’ve ever had on the 12 books blog, which is lovely, so I hope people liked it enough to come back.  If you are visiting for the first time and would like to know what on earth is going on, you can read a quick overview on IdeasTap or a slightly longer evaluation of the journey so far on Mslexia.

Meanwhile here is a reading from book seven, which you may remember is aimed at kids and is about a grumpy wizard called Snooky Jim, a slightly batty cat lady called Amelia Trousers, and a young lad called Chris who is well brung up and usually eats his greens.  I wrote this yesterday and have just done one take, so it’s literally just me reading off a bit of paper.  But it’s pretty short, so that’s a bonus…  And anyway if you don’t like it you can’t be mean cause it’s my birthday, so there.
